Project Salvador Team Projects

Projects approved by the Project Salvador Team: Current projects include a parish-based Vegetable Garden Project in Cojutepeque, a Scholarship Fund for 18 high school students in metropolitan San Salvador, Training and Revolving Loan Fund for Micro-enterprises in San Salvador, a Flower-making Coop in San Rafael Cedros, an Environmental Health Project in La Bermuda, a Community Water Project in San Laureano, a Community Store in Ataco, and a Community Health Project in Lourdes, Colon. $25,000 was earmarked for new projects in 2004.

Proyecto Los Niños:
During 2004 the Copapayo Child Development Center provided 20 pre-school children with a safe environment to learn and grow, with support from Project Salvador donors totaling $2500. After 13 years of support, Project Salvador decided to leave the center in the hands of the community. Project Salvador will be looking for a similar child development project to support in 2005.

La Laguna Scholarship Program:
Project Salvador Board member Tony Gasbarro raised $18,000 in 2004 for scholarships for 140 elementary, middle school, high school and university students in Chalatenango, Sonsonate, Ahuachapan & La Libertad.

Community Schools Project: An additional $3,000 was raised during 2004 to sponsor 6 community teachers in Cuscatlán to finish their university studies and become certified teachers serving their own communities. Three students will be graduating and receiving their teaching certificates in 2005. Three more hope to be certified by the end of 2005. Since 1999, the Community Schools project has supported 16 teachers in becoming certified teachers through the Ministry of Education.

Karen Adams Memorial Gift : In 2004 Project Salvador was the recipient of an $85,000 donation from the estate of Ms. Karen Adams of Hawaii. The Board has decided to establish the Karen Adams Micro-lending Fund to support revolving loan funds for women’s committees throughout El Salvador. Funds will also be used to expand marketing support to the artisans supported by People of Hope Crafts.

Jayaque Sister Parish:
Project Salvador facilitated the establishment of a sister parish relationship between the parish of San Cristobal in Jayaque, La Libertad and Most Precious Blood Parish in Denver. In 2004, their relationship expanded to include not only financial support of parish construction, leadership development and youth scholarships, but also a reverse mission visit by Jayaque pastor Padre Oscar Villegas to Denver. While no longer formally responsible for the administration of this effort, Project Salvador continues to accompany these faith communities in their sister parish relationship.

Annual SUMMER DELEGATION to El Salvador
Our summer delegation of six women from Denver and Kansas had the opportunity to see the work of Project Salvador firsthand during 12 days of immersion in life in El Salvador. They also played the pre-requisite role of delivering donations of medicines, school supplies and clothing to some of the communities. We keep our delegations low-cost ($400, plus airfare) to facilitate as broad participation as possible in this life-changing experience. Are you interested in seeing the work of Project Salvador firsthand? Sign-up for our next summer delegation:
June 30- July 11, 2005
. For more information, contact Patty Lawless at 720-297-7091 or e-mail: luchando@juno.com. To see photos of previous delegations, visit our Delegation 2004 link.

Thank you for your part in making these projects possible in 2004!

We look forward to working together with you in 2005 supporting the people of El Salvador in their journey toward justice!
